Today we tip our hat to OEDB, curators of this mammoth list of free educational resources that should keep lifelong learners occupied for years. At last count, OEDB’s directory contains 2850+ resources in total, including 1166 free online courses – structured with syllabi, assignments and exams – from accredited universities. The balance of the material contains video, audio or written lectures with an informative bent – think TED Talks or the Khan Academy modules – for those times you have a stray hour to kill and an itch to learn something new.
The list contains all the introductory courses you might expect – math, science, programming, economics and the like. But what makes this list so valuable is the sheer depth of research on OEDB’s part: they really took the completionist’s approach, turning the list into a sort of university unto itself. As a result, you’ll be able to slip a few left-field electives into your course load this year:
Ambient Intelligence: This course will provide an overview of a new vision for Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) in which people are surrounded by intelligent and intuitive interfaces embedded in the everyday objects around them.
Know Thyself: The Delphic Oracle is said to have had two premier injunctions: NOTHING IN EXCESS, and KNOW THYSELF. This course will be an examination of the latter injunction.
Popular Narratives: Masterminds: Our purpose is to consider some of the most elaborate and thoughtful efforts to define and delineate “all-mastering,” and to consider some of the delineations of “all-mastering the intellect” in various guises – from magicians to master spies to detectives to scientists (mad and otherwise).
Who needs $100,000 in tuition when we have the internet, right? Mosey on over to the course list to get your learn on – and let us know what interesting nuggets you uncover.
